May 19, 2009

Hi all,

Hope you are enjoying this beautiful Spring. In Canada we are just coming off of the first long weekend of the year, and we know that our American friends are looking forward to their Memorial Day weekend next week. Ah, the joy of the shifting season!

Here at the Cottage, things have been busy. This has been a stunning year for the dogwood outside the house and we are enjoying all the people taking time to admire it and have their picture taken in front of it. It is nice to see people strolling by, smiling and enjoying the sights and sounds. What lovely energy they bring to our part of the world.

We have been enjoying the cardinals and the orioles swooping and nesting, and we have been watching for our resident brown bunny George II, who is, we believe, living under the verandah.

We hope that you enjoy this issue of Living Well. Please forward it along to your friends – we so appreciate your good word. Remember to check out the website for angel messages, the journal and up to the minute news!

Bright blessings,

Deb and Jean

Affirmations for Growth
- Change is good, even when it is challenging.
- I am open to new ways of thinking, being, and responding to life.
- Embracing change allows me to enjoy life more.

How to Invite Personal Growth

Is there anyone who doesn’t need to grow? No matter how much wisdom, compassion, humour, and so on we possess, there are probably areas of life in which we fall into longstanding patterns that no longer serve us.

Such patterns are destructive in that they spring from a time of life we have left behind so the ideas, beliefs, or attitudes they express are no longer appropriate for us. Allowing them to remain active without challenge is a powerful block to the good we wish to experience in our lives. They can be difficult to uproot, however, because they are still an automatic response to the circumstances we experience.

The first step, then, is to become aware of them. One way to do so is to spend a few moments with your journal. Note your core values: what qualities are most important to you to embrace and express? How do you think people ought to handle life circumstances?

Next, take a look at the situations that are problematic in your life. Think of how you normally handle them, then reread your journal. Where you respond in accordance with your values, give yourself a pat on the back! Pay attention, though, to the situations in which your response is not in harmony with your stated values.

Anytime we behave in ways that are not in accord with our beliefs, the result is conflict of some kind - either within ourselves or with others. The situations which draw out such behaviours are fertile ground for new growth.

Consider how you might handle the situation instead, seeking ways which would honour your values. Imagine how that might look and the likely results of the new response. If it feels uncomfortable, examine it. What would the new behaviour require you to give up? What changes would it ask of you? Why does it seem unappealing?

As you begin to look at the challenges in your life as gateways to growth, you’ll find it easier to handle them gracefully. As you begin to embrace the changes they invite you to make, you will find your life changes, too, in positive and unexpected ways.

The Angel Ladies’ Affiliate Referral Network

Together we all prosper.

In this economy, everyone can use a little extra cash. We’ve spoken to so many people who are finding things challenging and so, we took it to the angels to provide some inspiration. We thought about you, our wonderful subscribers.

When we get referrals from stores for readings and people looking for products, we thank the store owner by sending along 30% of the client’s purchase. Why not offer the same referral rate to our subscriber list – the people whom we care about and want to see happy and blessed!

Sound interesting? Could you use some extra monies? Do you have friends or contacts that could benefit from a reading? Think of the many products and services we offer – would your friends be interested?

You could start receiving monies by the end of the week! All the details are here: http://theangelladies.com/angel_ladies_affiliates.htm

In the Kitchen: Lazy Veggies

Both the Angel Ladies enjoy cooking (and eating!), but many people lack either the time or desire to cook fresh meals from ‘scratch,’ as they say. No matter. Even the busiest or most reluctant cook can prepare delicious meals.

You know how important it is to eat vegetables, but they can be a bit bland - especially if your approach to them is simply to heat frozen or canned veggies. There’s an untapped world of flavour waiting for them - and you can enjoy it with very little time, talent, or effort! Here are a few ideas to take those bland veggies from blah to blissful.

1. Got a lemon? Try a squirt of lemon juice over plain veggies - even bottled lemon juice will add a spark of flavour to beans, spinach, broccoli, etc. If company is coming, add a few slices of lemon to the dish and your veggies will look company pretty.

2. Everyone loves garlic, so add a sprinkle of garlic - fresh, diced, or powdered - to veggies. If you have fresh garlic, saute chopped garlic in a dab of oil or butter before tossing for added punch.

3. Onion to the rescue. Slice onions into the thinnest of slices, saute till limp, and add to veggies like beans. Or, add onion powder before serving.

4. Herbs like parsley, dill, oregano, and the like add both flavour and eye-appeal to a dish of plain vegetables. What herbs are in your cupboard? Try ‘em!

5. Serve ‘em saucy! Try stirring or tossing your vegetables with a little olive oil, soy sauce, vinegar or even sesame oil to kick up the flavour.

Finally, you can always eat it cheesy! Grate cheese over steaming broccoli or cauliflower and your family will line up for seconds. Parmesan adds a nice flavour, too.

Two minutes can turn anyone’s plain vegetables into a delicious side dish.

And, if you are feeling pressed for time or wondering what to get that hard-to-buy-for loved one, get them an Angel Ladies Gift Certificate! http://theangelladies.com/the_angel_ladies_gift_cert.htm
